What’s Actually on the Floor

Casino SkyCity Auckland is the only casino operating in Auckland, right on the corner of Victoria and Federal Streets in the CBD. We run around the clock, every day of the year, with three specific days handled differently. The venue closes on Christmas Day, we are shut on Good Friday, and on Anzac Day access is limited between 3am and 1pm. Outside those hours, the gaming floor is open whenever you arrive.

Our table games section focuses on the formats most people recognise straight away: Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Jai Sai and a couple of other variations spread through the pits. There are around 150 tables in total, which is a solid number for a single property and gives the floor a steady rhythm even on quieter nights. Electronic gaming machines are where the scale really shows. We host over 2,100 machines, placing this floor among the largest gaming environments in the Southern Hemisphere if you just look at machine count.

Inside the casino complex, gaming is split into two main areas. One is the open main floor for general play, the other is a more contained gaming space. Both areas operate under the same conditions and the same age settings: you must be at least 20 years old, no exceptions, whether you plan to sit down at a table or are simply walking through.

Getting There and Moving Around

Our street address is the corner of Victoria and Federal Streets in Auckland CBD, postcode 1010. The Sky Tower rises directly above the complex, so it works as a clear landmark from almost anywhere in central Auckland. From Queen Street, you are looking at a short walk of under five minutes heading northwest.

Once you step inside, the complex breaks out into a number of connected zones. The main casino floor is reached from the ground level entrance on Federal Street. SkyCity Hotel check-in is within the same building footprint, just a short walk from the casino area. Bars and dining spaces are spread over multiple levels that link the hotel and casino sides together. Access to the Sky Tower is ticketed and available from the lobby area next to the casino. The theatre has a separate entrance, and you will see clear signs from the main atrium.

There are three hotels on the precinct - SkyCity Hotel, SkyCity Grand Hotel, and a third on-site property. Guests staying with us can move from their rooms to the casino floor without needing to go outside, which is genuinely handy if you are here for a longer stay or a late session. More than 14 bars and restaurants operate within or immediately beside the complex, covering everything from casual grab-and-go to full seated dining.

If your focus is almost entirely on the casino itself, the Federal Street entrance is usually the most direct option. Security teams are posted at every entrance to the gaming areas and they check ID as you come through. Valid photo identification is required. It is not something you can skip and sort out later.

How a Visit Usually Goes

For guests visiting the tables for the first time, having a rough idea of the flow takes the pressure off. In practice it runs like this most of the time:

1. Come in through the Federal Street doors and move through the security checkpoint.
2. Show valid photo ID confirming that you are 20 years or older.
3. Walk to the cashier cage and exchange your NZD cash for chips.
4. Use the floor map near the cashier to pick the table games area you want.
5. Find a table with an open seat, wait until the current round has finished, then place your chips in the betting box before the dealer closes bets.
6. Follow the rules printed on the placard at each game. Those details matter and they differ slightly by table type.
7. When you are finished, head back to the cashier cage to cash in your chips.

For gaming machines, the process is even more straightforward. You enter, choose a machine, check the minimum bet on the screen, then insert NZD notes into the bill acceptor. Set your bet level using the on-screen controls and start play. Credits are tracked on the machine meter as you go. When you want to step away, press the Cash Out button to print a ticket, then redeem it at the cashier desk or at the nearest ticket redemption terminal.

One practical point we always emphasise regardless of what you play: decide on a figure before you sit down. Not a vague idea, an actual number. It is far easier to stick to a limit chosen outside the venue than to try to set one on the fly mid-session.

The Gaming Helpline at 0800 654 655 is operated independently from SkyCity. It connects callers to external counselling support and is fully confidential. That separation from our internal team is deliberate, and it gives people an option outside the structure of the venue.

Responsible gambling messages and resources are displayed across all gaming areas. The 20-year minimum age rule is enforced at every entry, and our staff receive training to recognise and respond to potential signs of gambling harm on the floor. It is a standing part of how we run the casino, not a side note.

Beyond the Casino Floor

SkyCity Auckland opened in 1996 as New Zealand’s second casino and has gradually developed into a broader entertainment precinct rather than a single-focus gaming hall. The complex is owned and operated by SkyCity Entertainment Group, which also manages properties in Hamilton, Queenstown and Adelaide. Auckland remains the flagship site for the group.

The Sky Tower, sitting above the casino, is approximately 1,000 feet high and is recognised as the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. It is run as a separate experience from the casino itself. You can book the SkyJump or SkyWalk independently, and they tend to work well if you are planning to spend a full day in the precinct, not just an evening session.

Our theatre space hosts live events on a programmed schedule, including music, comedy and stage productions. The line-up changes across the year. Tickets are sold through skycityauckland.co.nz, and events often link neatly with a meal or a short visit to the floor either side.
